Google has recently scanned over 1,860 issues of Life magazine, spanning the years from 1936 - 1972, including photographs, articles and even the advertising. The photography includes over 10 million images, “90% of which were never published in the magazine”.
This amazing treasure trove is available at http://books.google.com/. You can browse issues by year here: http://books.google.com/books?id=R1cEAAAAMBAJ&source=gbs_navlinks_s#all_issues_anchor
What a great opportunity for researchers! Primary material like this can be invaluable. Life Magazine was published weekly during one of the periods of tremendous changes in American life. Search by keyword (with one caveat though - they indexed ad text as well as article text, so you’ll get both in a search).
Enjoy these treasures and please let us know if you need any assistance!
